  • The 27-year-old centre-back joined the German club on a season-long loan deal in the summer. Following a string of impressive performances for the relegation threatened side in recent weeks, Djourou has earned a permanent switch on a contract that will last till the summer of 2016.

Manager Mirko Slomka confirmed the news by insisting that the player would play a vital part in organising the central defensive setup.

"I am happy that he's staying with us for the next few years as he's a stabilising influence at the centre of our defence," He said.

Hamburger SV are currently placed 17th in the Bundesliga with 24 points.
