Sky Sports claims that former Wigan star McCarthy has apparently caught the eye of Van Gaal, having received a thorough scout report on his performances for the Toffees in the recently concluded Premier League season.
The Toffees are believed to be keen on offering a new deal to the 23-year-old. However, United could entice the Merseysiders in letting go of their player, by offering Tom Cleverly as part of the deal.
