Rafael van der Vaart to miss World Cup

Dutch international midfielder Rafael van der Vaart will miss the World Cup in Brazil after sustaining an injury during training in the country's training camp in Portugal.

Van Der Vaart had been a part of the Netherlands' 30 man squad for the showpiece tournament but picked up a knock during training yesterday.

A KVNB statement read: "Rafael van der Vaart will miss the World Cup in Brazil. The Oranje international has strained a calf muscle in his right leg and coach Louis van Gaal has therefore decided not to include him in his final selection."
