Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that the club are nowhere close to signing AC Milan star Mario Balotelli, and the speculation is a 'pure invention' from the media.
The Gunners are understood to be in the search for a top-class striker during the summer transfer window, and reports had linked the FA Cup champions with a surprise move for the Italian international.
However, Wenger has dismissed the transfer news insisting that the former Manchester City had never been listed as a target for the club this summer.
Balotelli will head back home following his country's exit from the World Cup finals in Brazil.
