Hector Moreno not heading to Manchester United

Manchester United has called off the deal for Mexican defender Hector Moreno after he suffered an injury in their Round of 16 clash with Netherlands which ironically is coached by United's coach Louis Van Gaal.

  • Hector Moreno had a superb play in the World Cup and Mexico were certain to win their Round of 16 encounter but their hopes were dashed by a controversial penalty in stoppage time won by Robben.

Mexican star Moreno suffered a fractured tibia in his left leg just before the half time in collision with Arjen Robben inside his own penalty area and is expected to be sidelined for four to six months depending on the seriousness of the injury.

He currently plays as central defender for Espanyol in La Liga. He signed a five year contract with them in 2011 and was named "player of the year" in his debut season.

Van Gaal is desperate to sign a defender this season after the departure of experienced duo of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand and he will now have to look elsewhere.
