Newcastle are considering a move for Toulouse's star defender Jeremy Mathieu. The Frenchman has been an almost ever-present in the last two years for Toulouse, and is fast becoming one of the best young defenders in France.

Newcastle's defensive problems may see Sam Allardyce enter the market for more players, and Mathieu could fit the bill.



The 24-year-old is very versatile and capable of playing anywhere in defence and midfield, and has a very powerful shot.



Newcastle may have to pay in the region of £4.5 million to Toulouse for the player's services.
