The 21-year-old had a great season with the Bundesliga outfit last season, and is currently reckoned as one of the best young full-backs in European football.

Having impressed for the Swiss national side during the World Cup finals in Brazil, the talented left-back has attracted interest from a number of tops clubs in Europe.

According to Wolfsburger Allgemeine, the Red Devils have made a formal offer for the talented youngster, as manager Louis van Gaal wants to provide sufficient competition to Luke Shaw for the left-back role during the next campaign, with veteran defender Patrice Evra likely to leave the Mancunian giants this summer.
