The Brazil international, who started for the national side during their 7-1 mauling at the hands of Germany in the semi-finals of the World Cup, is understood to be seeking a switch away from Donetsk, having joined the club just a year ago from Atletico Mineiro.

Goal.com claims that the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who had shown keen interest in signing Bernard last year, could be prepared to make a bid in the region of £20m for the player in the next few days.

Arsenal are also interested in Sami Khedira and Lars Bender.
