Arsenal boss Wenger confirms move for Calum Chambers

28 July 2014 - 11:33

Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has confirmed that a deal for Calum Chambers is close to completion. The full back will transfer from Southampton and sign a five year deal shortly.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao
  • Whilst no official word has been heard from Arsenal themselves, the Gunners are rumoured to have had a £10 million bid accepted for Chambers and depending on appearances and club success, a further £6 million will be paid over the next four seasons.

"He hasn’t played many games but the English players on the market in England are very expensive," Wenger said. "At the end of the day I was ready to take a gamble because he is one for the future.

"He is a player I wanted because I rated his quality and intelligence. He is only 19 and can play at centre-back, right-back and central midfield. I hope he will give us competition for the players in those three positions."
