Arsenal to reignite interest in Man Utd defender?

21 September 2014 - 06:09

Arsenal are reportedly set to renew their interest in Manchester United defender Chris Smalling during the winter transfer window, according to The Mail.

  • Arsenal & Chelsea want to sign ex-Forest midfielder
  • Chelsea set for massive double injury boost vs Liverpool
  • The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is understood to be keen on signing a new defender in January, following the lack of sufficient back-up to the likes of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny for the central defensive role.

The Mail reports that United could offload the England international at the start of the year, with manager Louis van Gaal open to offering a first-team role to young defender Tyler Blackett.

Arsenal won in emphatic fashion as they thrashed Aston Villa by 3-0 scoreline on Saturday.
