Manchester United could sell Spanish midfielder Juan Mata in the January transfer window, as sources close to manager Louis van Gaal suggest that the former Chelsea man is no longer a part of his plans.
Since the arrival of Radamel Falcao, Mata's guaranteed position in the first team appears to be under threat; with coach van Gaal preferring to deploy Wayne Rooney behind Robin van Persie and Colombian striker Falcao.
Mata is said to be disappointed with a lack of first team action and is now considering a return to his homeland.
Valencia, who are soon to have an injection of much needed cash as they are currently in the middle of a takeover bid; are believed to be favourites to sign Mata. His former club will go head to head with Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid; who still have around 45 million euros to spend on new players remaining from last summer.
