Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has diverted his attention to AS Roma’s on-loan midfielder Radja Nainggolan, after the Italian club has specifically stated that Kevin Strootman will not be on sale next year.

  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • Reports suggested that the Dutch international has been on Van Gaal’s radar for the last few weeks, with the Netherlands’ boss keen on snapping up the player once he recovers from his cruciate ligament injury, but the Wolves stand strong on their decision of not parting ways with the 24-year-old forcing the manager to look for alternatives.

According to Sky Italia, the Red Devils are now considering a deal for Strootman’s team-mate at Stadio Olimpico, Nainggolan. The Belgian footballer joined the Serie A side, initially on a loan in January this year, from fellow Italian side Cagilari after making 124 appearances for the Sardinians during his three years with them.

The 26-year-old has made 18 appearances for Roma since his debut, scoring on three occasions. He also has five international caps to his name, with one goal, and was selected as a stand-by for Belgium’s World Cup squad this year.
