United boss to sign long-term target in January

25 October 2014 - 00:46

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will reportedly make a move for one of the club's long-term targets in the January transfer window.

  • Chelsea quoted price to sign Igor Thiago
  • Chelsea make Joao Pedro transfer decision
  • The Red Devils boss is well aware that the club are still in need of a top-class centre-back, having played the likes of Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair due to a recurring injury crisis in the initial part of the campaign.

According to The Mirror, Van Gaal has identified Zenit St.Peterburg's Ezequeil Garay as the perfect fit to solve the club's defensive jinx.

The report adds that United will make a move for the Argentina international in the upcoming transfer window, as he is not content with Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones, the three central defenders he inherited on his appointment.

Garay joined Zenit St.Petersburg from Benfica for £12m over the summer.
