Chelsea have reportedly made a January offer for the services of Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, according to Metro.

The Spain international is expected to leave Camp Nou in the New Year, having failed to cement his place in the first-team under manager Luis Enrique.

The Metro claims that the Blues have made a bid of around £23.6m, which is believed to be close to Barca's asking price.

However, the Premier League leaders are likely to face stiff competition from former club Manchester United to land the player's signature.

Pique has scored 12 goals in 170 games for Barca so far.
