Manchester United are reportedly set to make a surprise attempt to sign former defender Nemanja Vidic in the January transfer window, as per The Express.
The Serbian international joined Inter Milan from Manchester United in a free transfer over the summer, following a below-par season for the Red Devils last season.
However, The Express now claims that United boss Louis van Gaal is desperate to solve the club's defensive crisis, and will consider a move for Vidic, who could be offloaded by Inter in the New Year having failed to settle at the San Siro.
Vidic has made just eight appearances for the Nerazzurri so far.
