Manchester United have reportedly joined Arsenal in the race to sign German international Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund in January.
The World Cup winner is believed to be considering his future at BVB, following the club's dismal start to the league campaign.
According to The Guardian, United are in search for an experience centre-back following the departures of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in the summer.
In addition to this, injuries to Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo have stretched their options further, and an offer for Hummels looks forthcoming.
United will bid a fee of around £32m for the talented centre-back in the winter transfer window.
