Man Utd target Diego Godin told to stay at Atletico Madrid

Uruguayan defender Diego Godin has been told that he must stay at Atletico Madrid. The centre back has attracted the interest of many of Europe's top sides but has so far remained fiercely loyal to the La Liga champions.

  • Manchester United have suffered at the back so far this season and will now plot a move for a new defender to shore up their leaky defence.

Godin was one of Atletico's best players last season at Atletico Madrid and manager Diego Simeone wants to tie the 28-year-old down to a new five year contract at the Calderon.

Godin has a year and a half remaining on his current contract at the Champions League finalists of last season.
