Liverpool are reportedly inching closer to a deal for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to The Mail.

The Argentina international has been long linked with a switch to the Premier League, with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool interested in his services.

The Mail claims that the Reds could agree on a £30m deal to sign the former Real Madrid, which could see Mario Balotelli being shown the exit door.

Adding to this, Balotelli could be offered to Sampdoria in a player-plus-cash deal with goalkeeper Sergio Romero moving the other way.

Liverpool are eighth in the Premier League with 32 points.
