Former Gunner faces Champions League axe

17 January 2015 - 05:36

French defender Bacary Sagna looks the likely candidate to be left out of the Manchester City's Champions League squad following the signing of Wilfried Bony from Swansea City.

  • Chelsea prepare mega money bid for Alex Scott
  • Wayne Rooney makes big Chelsea claim for next season
  • Sagna joined the Citizens from Arsenal on a free transfer and has since played a bit-part role in the Premier League.

According to UEFA restrictions, City can only 16 foreign-trained players in their reduced squad of 21 having failed to comply with the Financial Fair Play regulations in the previous campaign.

It is believed that Argentine defender Pablo Zabaleta will own the right-back spot, with City boss Manuel Pellegrini likely to trust either Dedryck Boyata or James Milner for back-up.

City host Spanish giants Barcelona in the Round of 16 first leg of the Champions League on February 24.
