The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has shown keen interest in signing central defender this month, with Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker being the club's only reliable options.

Spanish journalist Kike Marin has revealed that the Brazilian defender will have a medical at Arsenal ahead of a £13.8m switch to the Emirates.

Arsenal are also confident of acquiring the player's work permit before the closure of the winter transfer window.
