Claude Puel favourite to take Newcastle job

Newcastle United want to make Nice coach Claude Puel their new manager at the end of the season. It is understood that Newcastle directors have made the 53-year-old their new favourite to take over from Alan Pardew.

  • Puel has spent time coaching some of France's top clubs, having had spells at Monaco, Lille, Lyon and now Nice since 2012. The 53-year-old is said to be desperate to move to England but wants to see out this campaign with his current club.

    Numerous names have been linked with the Magpies job, but John Carver has been officially installed as temporary boss until the end of the season.
