Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal considers Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani as his main target for the summer, The Mirror reports.

The Uruguayan international exchanged words with manager Laurent Blanc having been substituted during the club's 3-2 win against Marseille over the weekend.

This had led to the speculation that he could be offloaded at the end of the current campaign.

According to The Mirror, Van Gaal is keen on signing a replacement for injury prone star Robin van Persie, and will rival Arsenal for Cavani's signature this summer.

Cavani joined Les Parisiens from Napoli in 2013.
