Arsenal to make surprise move for Luke Garbutt?

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is to make a surprise move for Everton young left back Luke Garbutt at the end of the season. The Toffees' defender is heading into the final few months of his existing deal.

  • The 21-year-old has been offered a new contract by Everton but the defender has yet to accept the terms. Having broken in to the club's first team this season after an injury to current first choice left back, Leighton Baines, Garbutt is now looking to continue his development but is concerned Baines will continue to hamper his own progress.

Garbutt has just six months remaining on his deal at Goodison Park and the Toffees have offered to extend that contract with a further three years.

Arsenal are rumoured to be one of the teams interested in the left back. With Nacho Monreal firmly forcing his way into the first team this season, it is understood that Arsenal want to bring in another left back for improved competition in the first team. Kieron Gibbs is the current second choice left back at Arsenal.
