Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is understood to have made an eleventh hour to bring Manchester United target Nicolas Otamendi to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The Red Devils look favourites to sign up the Argentine defender, having agreed terms with the player.
United are expected to come up with an offer matching Los Che's £35m asking price for the player in the coming days.
However, reports in Spain cite that Mourinho is hopeful that he can lure the former Porto star to the Blues, having made a late move to secure his services.
Otamendi scored six goals in 38 games for Los Che last term.
