Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin has rejected an approach from Manchester City, according to reports.

The Uruguayan international was considered as top transfer target for City boss Manuel Pellegrini, as he seeks to overturn the club's pre-season malaise.

However, The Mirror cites that the talented centre-back is in no hurry to leave Atletico Madrid, and will sign a new contract extension in the upcoming week.

Godin made 46 appearances for the Basque outfit in all competitions last season.
