According to The Express, United boss Van Gaal is ready to spend a club-record fee in the region of &pound73m to lure his former player to Old Trafford this summer.

It is added that the signing of Robben would blow the club's remaining transfer budget for the summer.

Robben joined Bayern Munich under former manager Louis van Gaal in 2009.
