Manchester United are reportedly looking to pip Manchester City to the signing of Everton centre-back John Stones. The England international is likely to leave the Toffees in the summer transfer window.

Stones had been the subject of numerous bids from Chelsea last year, but the Toffees managed to keep hold of his services for the season.

However, this time around, the player has stated his desire to move on, and this has caught the radar of the Citizens.

Pep Guardiola's side are currently in discussions over a transfer price for the 22-year-old, but according to the Times, they could face stiff competition from arch-rivals United.

United boss Jose Mourinho was hot on Stones' trail during his time at Stamford Bridge, and a bid could well be in the offing over the summer.

Everton will demand a fee in excess of £50m for Stones, who was recruited from Barnsley for just £3.5m in 2013.
