  • The Republic of Ireland international was a surprise signing for many when he first arrived from Hull City two years ago. But, he has since put up an impressive showing upfront, and this has earned him plaudits from the club's faithful.

Long has now penned a new deal which would keep him at St.Mary's until the summer of 2020.

"I'm delighted. I'm excited to be part of what could be a big future in the next four years for this club," he told the club's official website.

The news will come as a huge relief for Ronald Koeman's side who have seen the likes of Graziano Pelle, Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane depart in the current transfer window.

Long has netted 20 goals in 73 games for Southampton till date.
