Arsenal set to move for Draxler

Arsenal could be set to make a move for German midfielder Julian Draxler, according to reports in Germany.

  • Draxler spoke to German newspaper Bild yesterday, confirming his desire to leave VfL Wolfsburg after just one season with the Bundesliga club.

It is believed that Arsenal and Juventus are leading the chase to sign the talented 22-year-old, with the player said to prefer a move to the Emirates.

Draxler signed for Wolfsburg a year ago for €30 million from Schalke 04 and helped the Wolves reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League, before losing to eventual winners Real Madrid.

But Wolfsburg failed to qualify for this season's Champions League having finished a disappointing eighth in the Bundesliga, a full 10 points behind the final Champions League qualifying place.

Draxler was impressive for Germany at the recent UEFA European Championship in France, helping Joachim Lowe's side reach the semi-finals before eventually losing to the host nation.

Arsenal have been credited with an interest in signing Draxler for several years dating back to when the player was a teenager in the Schalke line up, and it seems Gunners boss Arsene Wenger could finally be about to get his man.

However, Draxler would not come cheap, as Wolfsburg will be expecting to make a healthy profit on the player they shelled out €30 million just a year ago.
