Everton are nearing an agreement for Valencia centre-back Aymen Abdennour. The move comes about after Sunderland neglected their approach to sign Lamine Kone.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Toffees coach Ronald Koeman is eager add defensive cover to his backline after John Stones made his much-awaited move to Manchester City.

Summer signing Ashley Williams is likely to pair up with Phil Jagielka at the back once fit, but the need for sufficient back-up remains Koeman's priority in the transfer window.

According to The Mirror, the Toffees are in advanced negotiations with Los Che for Abdennour, and a transfer agreement is likely to be struck in the coming days.

Abdennour, 27, had an average campaign at Mestalla following his arrival from AS Monaco last summer. He appeared in 22 league outings for Valencia.
