West Brom reject Arsenal offer for Jonny Evans

Gunners fail with Evans bid

West Brom reject Arsenal offer for Jonny Evans

18 August 2016 - 06:08

West Bromwich have rebuffed an opening £16m bid from Arsenal for defender Jonny Evans. The 28-year-old joined the Baggies from Manchester United last summer.

  • Chelsea receive €40m offer for wantaway winger
  • Chelsea complete move for Wigan starlet
  • Arsene Wenger's side are on the search for defensive reinforcements after the centre-back pairing of Gabriel and Per Mertesacker were ruled out with long-term injuries.

According to The Express, the Baggies have declined a £16m offer from the Gunners for the Northern Irishman as they have no intention to sell their player in the transfer window.

Evans played a key role for the Midlands outfit last term as they stayed clear of the Premier League drop. He was also part of Martin O'Neill's side that reached the last 16 of the European championships.

It will be interesting to see whether the Gunners revive their pursuit for Evans, given he is the cheaper option when compared to other targets in Shkodran Mustafi and Jose Gimenez.
