Ilkay Gundogan could bet set to make his Manchester City in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Saturday (10 September).
According to reports, Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is nearing full fitness and could be in line to make his first appearance for the Citizens since a £25 million move from Borussia Dortmund when Pep Guardiola’s men travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Saturday.
Gundogan suffered a dislocated kneecap at the end of last season which ruled him out of the UEFA European Championship in Spain. The prognosis at the time was that the player would likely recover in time to play again in September or October.
Despite his injury, City still decided to pursue a deal for Gundogan, after he was highlighted as a key transfer target by Guardiola.
And the German international playmaker could be in line to make his return to action in what is the most anticipated Manchester derby in recent memory.
Both City and United have made a 100 per cent start to their respective Premier League campaigns, and they will battle for Mancunian supremacy and to affirm their status as early season title favourites.
Going into Saturday’s clash, all eyes are on Guardiola and United boss José Mourinho, as the two men are set to resume the heated rivalry which played out when they were in charge of Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
