Wayne Rooneys days at Man Utd could be limited

Rooney could leave United next summer

Wayne Rooney's days at Man Utd could be limited

16 September 2016 - 07:01

Manchester United are pondering over the sale of Wayne Rooney next summer. The England international has dropped in his performance levels over the past year, and this has stalled negotiations over a fresh contract.

  • Predicted Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Crystal Palace, Evans starts
  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal

  • The 30-year-old is currently featuring in the number '10' role with Zlatan Ibrahimovic being the preferred option to lead the line under Jose Mourinho.

Sources close to United suggest that the club's hierarchy are considering the position of Rooney, given his lack of consistency in recent seasons.

It is added that they would not mind offloading their captain at the end of the season in order to cut down on his £300,000 weekly wages.

The experienced striker is believed to have been dropped for the game against Feyenoord in midweek, and this could be one of the many surprises this term with Mourinho unlikely to keep under-performing players in his side.

Rooney has notched 246 goals in all competitions for United, and he is just four goals away from beating the club's all-time goalscoring record held by Sir Bobby Charlton. He has two years left on his current deal.
