Manchester United are once again being linked with a move for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos. The Spain international was strongly tipped to join the Red Devils last year before he committed his future to the European champions.

Italian source Calciomercato says the Mancunian giants are prepared to cough up a sum of around £42m in order pursue the player's signature in the New Year.

United boss Jose Mourinho did share a more than decent relationship with Ramos at Los Blancos, and he will be looking to take it as an advantage as he hopes to pursue a new centre-back this winter.

Ramos has amassed over 475 appearances for Real Madrid since linking up from Sevilla way back in 2005. He now serves as the captain for both club and country.
