Chelsea eyeing Edinson Cavani swoop

29 September 2016 - 07:57

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is prepared to lodge an attempt to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani in the New Year. The Uruguayan international has been in red hot form since the start of the campaign.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The 29-year-old has revelled in the centre-forward position this term netting nine goals in just eight outings in all competitions.

TMW reports that the Blues will seek to test Les Parisiens' resolve for Cavani in January with Diego Costa likely to be offered as makeweight in the proposed deal.

The French champions did have their doubts over Cavani's position earlier in the summer, but with the striker in a rich vein of form this season, they look unlikely to discuss a deal midway through the campaign.

Cavani, who joined Les Parisiens from Napoli in 2013, had been craving for the lone upfront, and it was not until Zlatan Ibrahimovic left on a free transfer, did he earn his chance to lead the line.

The striker is currently valued in the £57m range.
