Juan Mata says that Manchester United have adopted a siege mentality in order to overcome their recent run of poor results.
Manchester United recently endured a run of three straight defeats, losing to Mancheter City and Watford in the Premier League and Feyenoord in the Europa League.
The Red Devils have since bucked that trend by going unbeaten in their last four outings, winning against Northampton Town in the EFL Cup, beating Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League, demolishing Leicester City 4-1, and drawing 1-1 with Stoke City in the Premier League.
Spanish midfielder Juan Mata has put the Red Devils turn around in form down to a siege mentality that the side has adopted.
Jose Mourinho’s side enjoyed a solid start to the season, beating champions Leicester in the Community Sheild, and seeing off Bournemouth, Southampton and Hull City in their opening Premier League fitures.
But defeat to Pep Guardiola’s City in the much anticipated first Manchester derby of the season seemed to dent the Old Trafford club’s confidence and led to many fans questioning Mourinho’s team selection, with calls for captain Wayne Rooney to be dropped.
Rooney has spent the last three games on the bech and, despite a disappointing draw against struggling Stoke at Old Trafford on Sunday, United’s performances have improved, as they have exhibited a greater degree of attacking fluency.
