Mourinho hopeful that Martial has overcome personal issues

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is hopeful that Anthony Martial has put his recent bad form behind, with the belief around Old Trafford being that the Frenchman’s performances have dipped since the breakdown of his marriage earlier this year, according to reports.

  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • The Mirror is reporting that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes that the reason for Anthony Martial’s slow start to the season is the fact that the 20-year-old’s marriage recently broke down, and the Portuguese coach is hopeful that, having scored against Stoke City at the Weekend, the French forward is ready to show his best form for the Red Devils.

Martial split with his partner Samantha earlier this year, with her moving back to France with the couple’s one-year-old son.

Martial has experienced and indifferent start to the current campaign, with such off field distractions thought to be the root cause.

But the United number 11 netted his first goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Stoke City on Sunday, following up on an impressive substitute’s appearance against Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League on Thrusday. And Mourinho is now hopeful that the youngster is ready to recapture his best form.

Mrtial joined United from Monaco last summer in a £36 million deal, which could eventually reach £58 million if certain performance related conditions are met.

He was the Re Devils’ top scorer last season with 17 goals and was awarded the FIFA Golden Boy award for the best young player in Europe.
