Arsenal had sent their scouts to keep a close watch on Andre Silva during Porto's Champions League defeat at Leicester City. The young striker has been earmarked as a possible replacement for Olivier Giroud.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • Giroud, 30, has seen his playing time restricted since the start of the campaign, and with Alexis Sanchez in red hot form, things are unlikely to change in the near future.

Portuguese source O Jogo claims that Gunners' scouts were in attendance to track the marksman during his side's 1-0 loss to Leicester City last month.

Silva, who was previously on the radar of Manchester United, has been tipped to reach great heights, and he could be the ideal player to lead the line for the Gunners, should they manage to get their hands on his services.

The youngster penned a fresh five-year deal at Porto in the summer which includes a £53m release clause.
