Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has admitted that he tried to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus this summer, before the French midfielder eventually joined Manchester United in a world record £89 million bid, according to reports in France.
Speaking to former France international team mate Christophe Dugarry on French radio station Radio Montecarlo on Thursday night, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane admitted that the European champions tried to sign Paul Pogba this summer and held talks over a deal.
Madrid were rumoured to be interested in signing Pogba from Juventus during the summer, but the club has previously refused to confirm that that was the case.
Now Zidane has said that they did in fact want Pogba to move to the Bernabeu in the summer transfer window.
It the saga of the summer, Pogba ended up re-joining Manchester United in world record breaking £89 million deal.
Pogba left United as a teenage in 2012 to join the Old Lady having grown frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities he was being afforded under Sir Alex Ferguson at the time.
The skilled Frenchman immediately became a 2key player for the Turin club and won the Serie A title in each of his four seasons with the Bionconeri, as well as helping Juve reach the 2015 Champions League final, which the eventually lost 3-1 to Barcelona.
