Experience Required: Moyes Looks To Veterans

Moyes will look to Keane & Lescott for experience

Experience Required: Moyes Looks To Veterans

22 January 2017 - 15:29

Sunderland manager David Moyes may turn his attention to two former Premier League players, to try and lift his side off of the bottom of the English Premier League.

  • Dutch star has travelled to London for Chelsea medical
  • Chelsea to focus on signing Dutch attacker after Hato

  • 36 year old striker Robbie Keane and 34 year old defender Joleon Lescott would both be available on free transfers, and would help to tighten up the defence and improve the strike rate. The two players have both shown that they can perform at this level in the past, however it is yet to be seen whether they can still do so after an absence from the league.

Keane has recently left MLS side LA Galaxy after a six year spell in the States, where he made 125 appearances, which returned 83 goals. Keane is a proven goalscorer and reuniting a strike partnership with Jermaine Defoe, whom he played alongside at Tottenham Hotspur, may be what The Black Cats need to move out of the relegation zone.

Joleon Lescott recently left Greek side AEK Athens and has been training with Sunderland since, in a bid to find a new club. Lescott played in the Premier League as recently as last season, however it ended badly as he was relegated with Aston Villa. Having appeared in the EPL for five different sides, Lescott knows the league well and would bring a wealth of experience to a defence that has conceded 42 goals in 22 league matches.
