Arsenal back at the summit

Arsenal back at the summit

29 January 2008 - 21:45

Arsenal have regained top spot in the Premiership for 24 hours at least with a comfortable 3-0 victory over poor Newcastle. Goals from Adebayor, Flamini and Fabregas were enough to see off Newcastle by 3-0 for the second time in three days.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • Kevin Keegan will have a lot to think about as Newcastle again were left scoreless and comprehensively beaten by a classy Arsenal outfit.

Newcastle kept Arsenal at bay for the majority of the 1st half but four minutes before half-time Arsenal goal machine Emmanuel Adebayor headed a brilliant Flamini cross past a flailing Shay Given.

As it was on Saturday in the FA Cup tie Newcastle fell apart after the first goal, and the question was not if Arsenal would win? But by how many? Arsenal poured forward and the second goal was worth the wait Mathieu Flamini picked the ball out 30 yards from goal and fired in an unstoppable shot into the top left hand corner.

The third came from good work by Bendtner to set up Fabregas who buried it from 10 yards.

Newcastle nearly got a late consolation from Nicky Butt who hit the woodwork from a free-kick, but that was the closest Newcastle were going to get and with Dennis Wise appointed as the new Executive Director looking on it is certain that he has an ever growing list of new players for Keegan to look at in the transfer market after today's performance.

Arsenal however continue their run and do not look like slowing down in the bid for the premiership crown.
