AC Milan are surprise candidates to sign Tottenham skipper Jan Vertonghen at the end of the season. The Belgian star is wanted at the San Siro to lead the Serie A side for next season.

Vertonghen, who is currently sidelined through injury, has been one of the stars of Spurs' campaign in recent seasons and has been categorically told that he will not be allowed to leave White Hart Lane.

However, with AC Milan set to bolster their squad and spend a reported 150 million euros this summer, the cash rich club have earmarked a brand new defensive star as their top priority.

Vertonghen has two and a half years remaining on his Spurs contract.
