Southampton manager Claude Puel has sent scouts to China to watch forward Michael Olunga. The player is currently starring for Guizhou.
The 22-year-old currently has 22 caps for his country Kenya and has impressed prior to his move to China where he played for Swedish side Djurgardens IF. Olunga bagged an impressive 12 goals in 27 games before moving to Asia. Despite only recently moving to Guizhou; Southampton are confident that they can snap up the 6 foot 3 striker in the summer transfer window for a significant fee.
According to reports from Kenya, Southampton coach Claude Puel has deployed his chief scout to China to watch the Peter Crouch-esque striker in action and has received glowing reports back regarding Michael's performances.
Olunga is popularly known his homeland as "The Engineer" as he once studied engineering at the Technical University of Kenya from 2013.
Southampton are confident that a deal can be agreed despite the significant salary the forward is earning in China and are to open talks with Guizhou in May with regards to a move for the forward. It is understood that Olunga's opportunities are likely to be limited by the arrival of former Premier League forward Nikica Jelavic, who played for both Everton and West Ham amongst others.
