Antonio Conte wants Real Madrid striker

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will retain his interest in Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata following his side's failure to sign him last summer.

  • Morata, 24, had been linked with a £60m approach last year after he completed his return to Real Madrid from Juventus.

However, the European champions opted to keep hold of their asset for the season with Zinedine Zidane keen on having a suitable competitor to Karim Benzema for the centre-forward role.

Morata has since made 19 appearances in the Spanish La Liga but only nine of those have come from the starting lineup.

According to The Sun, Conte will revive his pursuit for Morata in the summer with the player himself keen a move to west London.

Morata had been valued in excess of £65m during the previous summer transfer window, but this is likely to come down following a frustrating spell in the Spanish capital.

Despite his limited gametime, Morata has netted eight goals in the Spanish top flight, which is an impressive tally for a player coming off the bench on a regular basis.
