Laurent Koscielny heading for Arsenal exit?

01 May 2017 - 05:12

Arsenal standing captain Laurent Koscielny has been linked with a surprise move away from the Emirates in the summer.

  • Chelsea midfielder wants to play in Olympic games
  • Arsenal favourites to sign French winger ahead of Chelsea

  • The Frenchman's future has been placed in doubt earlier in the campaign with German champions Bayern Munich said to be hot on the trail of his services.

However, the central defender decided to extend his contract by three years earlier in January, and this had cooled speculation over his future.

According to The Sun, the 31-year-old could receive transfer interest from the likes of Marseille and Manchester City following yet another disappointing campaign in the Gunners shirt.

The France international is widely regarded as one of the finest centre-backs plying their trade in England, and Marseille are prepared to tempt him back to Ligue 1 with the prospect of building a star-studded squad for next season.

Les Phoceens have landed the likes of Patrice Evra and Dimitri Payet over the past year or so, and they are now prepared to step up their interest in Koscielny, who is being seen as the potential leader of the pack.

Meanwhile, league rivals Manchester City are also planning a potential bid with manager Pep Guardiola keen to add more experience to his backline which has lacked solidity over the course of the campaign.

Koscielny has earlier iterated his desire to win more trophies with the FA Cup finalists, and it is highly unlikely that he would part ways unless he is offered a significant increase on his £100,000-a-week wages.
