Newcastle and Crystal Palace to compete for England goalkeeper

Tom Heaton has performed well again for Burnley this season

Newcastle and Crystal Palace to compete for England goalkeeper

Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are both teams on the up. After a season in the Championship, Newcastle will be back in the Premier League next season and since the arrival of Sam Allardyce, Crystal Palace are now pushing for the top half of the Premier League. Both teams are set to compete this summer for the signature of an England goalkeeper.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • Tom Heaton has had another strong season between the posts for Burnley, who are almost guaranteed another season in England's elite division. The Lancashire club look set to lose Michael Keane this summer, and Tom Heaton may also be on his way out.

The Sun reports that both Newcastle and Crystal Palace see Heaton as the man to strengthen their defences, as they both look for strong starts to next season's Premier League campaign.

Being a key member of Burnley's squad, and an England international, Heaton will not be sold cheaply. The report suggests that if any of those clubs are to prise him away from Turf Moor, they will have to spend in the region of £15 million.

Another goalkeeper linked to Newcastle United is highly rated Jordan Pickford. This would come as a highly controversial move, as Pickford currently plays for bitter rivals Sunderland.
