Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is lining up a move for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic with Michael Carrick nearing the end of his career.
The Red Devils had been recently linked with a move for Spurs midfielder Eric Dier but it appears that the north London club will not sell the player at any price.
As a result, the Special One has turned his attention towards Matic with whom he worked at Chelsea between 2014 and 2016.
According to The Manchester Evening News, Matic has been identified as an ideal option to bolster the heart of the midfield with Carrick approaching the final stages of his career.
Carrick has been a brilliant servant for United over the past decade, but he is seemingly mulling over a retirement with his contract to expire at the end of the season.
On the other hand, Blues boss Antonio Conte has underlined the need to sign a new central midfielder in the summer, and this could facilitate the exit of Matic, should any club match his valuation.
Matic had been approached by Italian giants Juventus during last summer transfer window before he was convinced to stay put by the Blues' hierarchy.
