Wayne Rooney's fairytale return to Everton may be prevented with the club unwilling to match his £100,000 per week wage demands. Manchester United's leading scorer looks certain to leave Old Trafford this summer and has been heavily linked with a return to Merseyside.
Despite having two years remaining on his Manchester United contract, the man who is the all-time leading scorer for his club and country has struggled to break into Jose Mourinho's first team plans.
The Express reports that despite willing to take a cut on his £250,000 per week contract with the Red Devils, his would still insist on a minimum of £100,000 per week. Everton manager Ronald Koeman is said to have a genuine interest in Rooney, but is unwilling to meet those demands.
Everton are the only English team believed to be interested in Wayne Rooney currently, with other interest coming from China. Although Rooney would prefer to keep his family in the UK, a lucrative deal could tempt him to Asia.
If none of these deals materialises, Wayne Rooney could start the season as a Manchester United player, where the thirty-one-year-old would continue to battle for a first team place.
