James Rodriguez has struggled to nail down a regular first team place since joining Real Madrid in 2014. That hasn't stopped the La Liga giants looking to make a profit on him this summer though, as they look to sell him for £70 million.
After impressing at the 2014 FIFA World Cup for Colombia, Rodriguez was quickly snapped up by Real Madrid for £63 million. Despite showing the ability that he has at times, he has struggled to establish himself at the Bernabeu.
At twenty-five, Rodriguez still has a lot of football ahead of him and the right move could see him resurrect his career.
A number of clubs have been linked with the out of favour midfielder this summer, including Chelsea and Manchester United.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is keen to add quality and depth to his squad this summer, as the Premier League champions bid to replicate their domestic success in Europe.
As time goes on, Rodriguez's link to Chelsea is strengthening. With Conte looking to bring several new signings to Stamford Bridge during this transfer window, the club are put off by Real's asking price.
The Evening Standard reports that Chelsea are unwilling to meet the £70 million asking price for Rodriguez. If Real Madrid refuse to budge on their valuation, Chelsea will look elsewhere, whilst Rodriguez's Real Madrid misery will continue.
