Manchester United could reportedly restrict their pursuit of Monaco's Fabinho, should they sign one of Eric Dier or Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window.
Jose Mourinho is keen to add a new holding midfielder to his ranks particularly with Michael Carrick approaching the final stages of his playing career.
While Fabinho has been linked with a move to United for a while, Mourinho does not seem to have the Brazilian as his top priority in the market.
Tottenham Hotspur's Dier and Chelsea's Matic are among the top names on the shortlist with the latter more likelier to leave his club in the summer.
Dier is apparently eyeing a role in the midfield rather than featuring in the three at the back, and this has gained speculation over his Spurs future.
On the other hand, Matic's position at Chelsea could become uncertain with the Blues keen to secure a summer deal for Monaco anchorman Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Manchester United announced his first signing of the summer yesterday after they secured a £30m plus deal for Sweden international Victor Lindelof.
